February 2024 at EHTP and Scholars Academies
FEBRUARY 2024 EHTP NEWSLETTER
Dear East Harlem Tutorial Program & Scholars Academies Families,
The month of February is far too tight a container for "Black History Month," we at EHTP prefer to approach antiracism and equitable amplification of student voices year round!
Just as James Baldwin, an East Harlem hero engaged such values and paved the way for generations to come to build love, equity, and justice, so too do we trust that our scholars will take the baton and run with it to a brighter future for all of us.
To our Black educators, we say thank you, thank you for your perspective, your wisdom, your and your energy! EHTP is made better by your experience and your contribution to the classroom. To our families reiterate our commitment, to prepare our scholars to effect change, challenge the status quo, and thrive in the world around them as EHTP aims to serve as an agent of change and thoughtfully contribute to the national fight for anti-racism.
Thank you for being part of our community and continuing to build love together. Check out the highlights from across our programs below, and access more community memories @ehtpnyc on Instagram.
With Love,
EHTP Senior Management Team
ANNOUNCEMENTS & FAMILY RESOURCES
East Harlem Teaching Residency
Are you acquainted with someone eager to embark on a journey to become an anti-racist and culturally responsive educator? We are actively seeking candidates for our upcoming 2024-2025 cohort of elementary teaching residents. Throughout the 14-month program, residents will engage in student teaching within the academies, take the lead in out-of-school time (OST) instruction, and complete their Master's Degree in Childhood Education at Hunter College.
As an added incentive, current employees who refer a resident that gets hired may be eligible to receive a $2,000 referral bonus after the resident completes six months of employment. To make a referral, please use the following link: https://app.greenhouse.io/referrals/new and select "Teaching Residency." We appreciate your support in helping us build a diverse and dedicated cohort for the upcoming academic year.

Ringing in the Lunar New Year over Literacy
Pre-K and Kindergarten scholars and their families enjoyed a fun reading of Ruby's Chinese New Year with EHTP's community partner Literacy In Community. “Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate, to be with family and friends and to remember what’s important in life,” said LINC Community Engagement Specialist Inez Martinez. Inside each child is the potential for a powerful, wise dragon– and it all starts with building foundational literacy skills early at home and on the go.
