ANNUAL CELEBRATION

SINCE ITS FOUNDING IN 1958, the East Harlem Tutorial Program has been partnering with families in East Harlem to prepare their children with the academic skills, strength of character, and emotional well-being to excel academically, lead in their community, and realize their best possible selves. Build Love celebrates our commitment to education, and raises funds to ensure every child has access to rigorous and affirming educational opportunities.  Support of essential programs including literacy, STEM, and college access programming foster continuous prosperity in the East Harlem community.

Core to our educational philosophy is our belief in the power of the written word. Literature sparks the imagination, speaks to the heart, and opens the mind. It ignites possibility in the classroom and workspace. It challenges the status quo and inspires us to transform the world. In creating the James Baldwin Award, we pay homage to an East Harlem hero and a world treasure whose literary genius paved the way for generations to come and celebrate the writers and activists who assume the mantle of the written word to build love and justice.
