After-School Programs Open for
East Harlem Students
More than 500 students from 90 public schools are registered for our K-12 after-school programs! In addition to building academic skills, students gain access to a wide-range of enrichment activities, including STEM and robotics, theater and drama, creative writing, college prep, and college visits!
Our Middle School Program started on September 12, and more than 110 students attended the first day (a 22 percent increase from last year)! Scholars wasted no time getting involved with enrichment activities and field trips. They attended a concert hosted by WE Day – a global partnership that encourages youth to be the change they wish to be in the world.

EHTP IN THE NEWS: Homeless Students Benefit from Programs Like EHTP
Dawan Julien, Managing Director of Out-of-School-Time Programs, was quoted by the Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homeless on how community programs can support homeless students.
The reason [homeless students] were able to recover and persist is that they had support. If they didn’t have that, it would have been really hard for them to rebound. With the most vulnerable students, it makes such a difference."

High School Scholars Visit Colleges
In September, our high school scholars went on their first college visit of the year! They visited Syracuse University, Cornell University, Onondaga Community College, and Le Moyne College. The trips are great opportunities to learn about different majors, and experience college life.
🎉 A quick shout-out to our high school class of 2017! They have a 90 percent fall college matriculation rate – WOW!

Teaching Residents Step Into the Classroom
Welcome to our new cohort of Teaching Residents! After a summer of training, Cohort 3 is ready to lead their after-school classrooms. They'll put into practice the skills they're learning at Hunter College, and receive one-to-one guidance from their mentor teachers at East Harlem Scholars Academies.

Cheers, chants, and singing of the school song start off every Friday at Scholars Academies. The highlight of Community Circle is when scholars and staff are recognized for demonstrating EHTP's Core Values.
Community Circle is also an opportunity to share important messages. Recently, student at Scholars II shared a video they produced celebrating LatinX Heritage Month.

Act Now – Keep the DREAM Alive!
As a community, we come together to
#BuildLove and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our families. Following President Trump's statement about ending DACA, EHTP is expanding the ways we support our families.
- We are providing counseling and other support to families, high school students, and College Scholars.
- Scholars Academies provide "Know Your Rights" workshops and committing to providing safe spaces for students and families.
We urge our community to let Congress know they must pass legislation protecting DREAMers! Maker your voice heard and take action:
