EHTP Stands With Victims of Violence at Home and Across US
East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) stands in solidarity with those affected by the rise in gun violence across the United States and in East Harlem.
Violent incidents like the recent mass shooting at a Texas elementary school and earlier this month, in a Buffalo, NY grocery store have horrified the nation, while right here in New York City, we mourn the death of 11-year-old Khyara Tay, the victims of the shootings in the subway earlier this spring, and countless others who have had their lives altered or cut short by gun violence.
These attacks bring to light, in horrifying detail, the work that must be done for our communities to be safe. We stand in solidarity with the families who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. We call for community-centered investment and solutions that do not reproduce harm, but instead uplift, nurture and support communities. Our community, especially our children, cannot wait.
Scholars cannot learn without feeling safe and secure. Safety at our schools and sites is our first priority. In response to ongoing concerns, we have recently increased security at our sites and campuses and we will continue to ensure that all procedures and methods are in place in order for scholars to have a safe homeplace at EHTP After-School programs and East Harlem Scholars Academies.
In addition, EHTP's Senior Executive Team and Board of Trustees are joining together to make a significant financial donation to stop gun violence and acts of racist hate. We urge all to support in any way the efforts to end the violence in our communities.
