Supreme Court Decisions, June 2022

EHTP’s programs and schools were started by community members in response to a lack of investment in education in our community. The recent decisions from the Supreme Court demonstrate the importance of unity in our community—East Harlem.

Now more than ever we need to work together to further the causes of equity and justice in ways that our government and its structures are unable and unwilling to deliver. The Supreme Court has demonstrated that despite calls for measures to decrease gun violence and for reproductive freedom, they do not care about our communities and especially the young people, who will bear the impact of a government that does not represent us. These decisions will have an impact today and for generations to come. Our programs and schools will share the models of change that follow in the footsteps of influential East Harlem activists like the Young Lords. When the government denies our people safety, justice and freedom we must occupy space, organize resources and do all we can to fight for our neighbors and future generations. EHTP is committed to working hand in hand with our community and providing such spaces for young people and their families to do so here in El Barrio.
