University Program

The EHTP University Program is a dynamic college readiness program for middle school and high school students. University Program addresses a wide range of college preparation and admissions issues, beginning with early college awareness in middle school and culminating in a full range of support for college students to ensure that they graduate on time.

In addition to classes that boost writing and science skills, high school scholars receive extensive college readiness support, including enrichment courses, SAT test preparation, college application assistance, financial aid coordination, mentoring, and counseling.

Qualified students also have the opportunity to take part in paid internships at EHTP, where they gain valuable work experience by supporting our teaching and administrative staff.

Media Studies

High school scholars can participate in our Media Studies program, where they produce a public access television show for Manhattan Neighborhood Network. These students learn the art of screenwriting, direct and produce films, and interview EHTP students, families, staff, and community members to raise awareness about issues affecting young people in East Harlem.

EHTP’s Media Studies scholars also participate in the Tribeca Teaches program where they have the chance to premiere their films at a Tribeca Film Institute showcase.

MedAchieve

Students in grades 10-12 can gain hands-on lab experience with medical professionals through the revolutionary MedAchieve program at Touro College of Medicine (TouroCOM). This program introduces scholars to the sciences by exposing them to lab work, allowing them to take college-level courses, and partnering them with medical students who mentor, teach and inspire them.

After a year at TouroCOM, students join doctors and medical students for extended programming at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. These scholars come out of the MedAchieve program excited about the field of medicine, armed with advanced knowledge, and ready to become leaders in the scientific world.

Robotics

EHTP’s Robotics program motivates and empowers high school students to be engineering and technology leaders. “EHTP Warriors: Team 1880” competes nationally, while engaging in classes that build science, engineering, and technology skills. Scholars in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to participate in LEGO Robotics, the middle-school lead-in to high school Robotics. EHTP’s LEGO Robotics team, the Little Warriors, competes annually at the FIRST Robotics Competition.

Last year, the 1880 Warriors won three of their qualifying rounds at the FIRST Robotics Competition at the Javits Center!

Summer Program

EHTP’s five-week Summer Program for middle and high school students includes four full days per week of educational, artistic, and recreational activities. To encourage active minds and bodies during the summer months, all students enrolled in the school-year program are expected to participate in summer program.

Middle school scholars spend the summer doing high-level STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) coursework, where they explore advanced forensic science and various topics in math. High school scholars have the opportunity to experience life on a college campus first-hand through the EHTP Summer Institute. The first two weeks of EHTP’s Summer Institute are held away at a college campus (most recently Tufts University) where students stay in dorms, take classes in lecture halls, and begin to work on collaborative projects. In remaining weeks, scholars return to East Harlem to complete these projects and solidify what they have learned.
