Supporting DREAMers, committing to anti-racism work, and celebrating our core values.

Time is Running Out! Support DREAMers Now

Our country depends on the energy, commitment, and vitality of immigrants who play a critical role in the future of America. The list of conditions that President Trump released to Congress in exchange for backing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) turns DREAMers into bargaining chips and ties their fate to the passage of inhumane anti-immigrant policies.

The clock is ticking on the deadline for passing the Dream Act. At East Harlem Tutorial Program we support all students and their families regardless of where they come from or what they believe in. It’s time we stop dehumanizing DREAMers and start treating them with dignity and compassion.

There is great urgency to make our voices heard by Congress. Please join us to continue to support our immigrant students and families. Together we can fight for what is right and uphold cherished values of dignity, equity, and justice for all.

What you can do:

  • Call your representative right now to support a #DreamAct that is not tied to hard-line and cruel anti-immigrant security measures. Ask your friends and family to reach out too. Click here to find your representative.
  • Teach at East Harlem Scholars Academies and join our fight for social justice and racial equity. Register for our November 8 Meet and Greet and learn more about our program and philosophy.
  • Apply to the East Harlem Teaching Residency. Train to become a teacher in New York City and be part of our effort to ensure that all students have access to high-quality education. The deadline to apply to the East Harlem Teaching Residency is November 1.

EHTP All-Staff Summit Focuses on Anti-Racism

Staff from across East Harlem Tutorial Program and East Harlem Scholars Academies gathered together in October for our biannual All-Staff Summit.

During this full day of professional development, we continued discussions around how we, as educators and staff, can combat systemic racism and engage in anti-racist and anti-oppression work.

Led by Border Crossers, staff talked about the impact that unconscious biases have on students as well as colleagues. In the afternoon, staff broke into small PD sessions on topics such as mindfulness and self-care, restorative practices, and incorporating technology to promote creativity in the classroom.

The summit is also a time for us to celebrate staff who exemplify EHTP’s Core Values (Service, Courage, Humility, Originality, Leadership, Achievement, Reflection). This fall, we recognized Shardané Berrien, Jessica Zannikos, George Oma, and Karin Gonzalez. Congratulations!
