Donors Raise $3.2 Million to Support East Harlem Scholars

On May 24, 2017, East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) brought together donors and friends to its 31st Annual Spring Benefit to celebrate its scholars and energize support for EHTP programs that will get them through college and realize their best possible selves.Gretchen and Steve Burke, CEO of NBCUniversal, served as co-chairs of the event. They helped EHTP raise critical funds to support its core initiatives, including tuition-free after-school and summer programs, a growing network of public schools (East Harlem Scholars Academies), and the East Harlem Teaching Residency.

My wife Gretchen and I are truly honored to support East Harlem Tutorial Program and chair this year's benefit. As a New Yorker, parent, and as a business leader, I know how important it is to provide a first-class education system for all students in this city, regardless of background or financial means," said Steve Burke.

Dinner featured remarks from Gretchen and Steve Burke, Board Chair Joan Solotar (Blackstone), and EHTP's Executive Director Jeff Ginsburg, student performances, and a keynote address by a college-bound high school senior.

Special guests at the gala included Marilyn and Jim Simons (Renaissance Technologies, Simons Foundation), Merryl Tisch, Lili Lynton (Daniel Boulud Restaurants), Borough President Gail Brewer, Robert Van Brugge (CEO, Sanford Bernstein), Bill Wilson (CEO, Pepsi Bottling), and various New York City elected officials. Many thanks to lead corporate partners, including Blackstone, JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, PwC, Glenview Capital, Deloitte, Aon, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Alliance Bernstein, and PepsiCo.
